2010 Greyhound Baseball Working Hard

April 8, 2010

The 2010 Greyhound baseball team has been working hard the past 4 weeks to get ready for the coming baseball season.  This year's team will be lead by seniors Cody Maggard, Austin Brooks, Cleve Willoughby, Danny Perez and Charles Anderson.  Maggard, Brooks and Willoughby have been playing since the 8th grade and their experience will be a big factor in the success of the Greyhounds season.  The Greyhounds finished 11-11 last year and would have finished better if they had not had 8 games rained out.  The strength of the Hounds will center around its pitching staff made up of Maggard, Willoughby, Perez and Jake Gubitz.  Gubitz led the staff last year with a 4-2 record.  Sophomore Oscar Alamilla will play short and also pitch as he has improved during the past weeks. Freshmen Ben and Robert Cooke will add needed support in the infield and outfield.  Freshman Logan West will start in left field and come in and also pitch when needed.         Even though the Hounds have 5 seniors, players 6 through 9 will be young and inexperienced.  "Our players have put in a lot of time preparing for the season.  We are still trying to find positions to fill.  Austin Brooks has been our catcher for the past 2 years and he looks to have a good season.  At the plate Cody Maggard and Austin Brooks, Charles Anderson will be called upon to drive in runs for us.  Alamilla, Gubitz, Perez and West need to find ways to get on base and use their speed, said Coach Cary Barr.  "We are looking forward to getting started.  We hope that we have good weather.  I feel by the end of the season we will have a good team due to our pitching.  We must find ways to score runs if we are to be competitive," said Coach Barr
