Ladyhounds Win 100th Game At Earl E. Redwine Gymnasium

After playing basketball from 1975-1992 at the old Southside Gym, the Paris Ladyhounds opened their new home during the 1992-1993 season. The gym was originally called Alumni Gym before being renamed to honor the late Earl E. Redwine back on February 20th, 2001. Redwine was the last coach to take a Paris boys’ basketball team to the state tournament and win a 10th Region Title.
In the team’s 21st year in the new facility, the Ladyhounds posted their 100th victory at the gym when they defeated the Silver Grove Lady Trains in the first round of the 2013 All “A” Classic 10th Region Tournament by a score of 57-9. The game was played January 9th.
Here are some facts about Earl E. Redwine Gymnasium and the Ladyhounds that were made possible by long-time Parishistorian Eugene“Puck” Puckett, who gave the gym its nickname … The Hound Pound!
The first win came on November 30th, 1992 against Western Hills. The final score was 81-51.
The first Paris points came from Gayle Olson, while current Ladyhound member Alexis Tye holds the record for most points scored in a single game at the gym with 43 during Paris’ 62-43 victory over Eminence back on December 3rd, 2011.
They’ve knocked off Bourbon County 17 times, Bracken County 7 times, Nicholas County 6 times and Harrison County 5 times for the most wins against an opponent at the gym.
The most wins at home during one season came during their first season with 9. They had 8 wins in 2001, 2003, 2004 and 2008, while recording 7 wins in 1999, 2000 and 2002.
Parisscored 91 points during their 91-42 win overBourbonCountyback onFebruary 10th, 2003 recording the most points scored at the gym by a Ladyhound team.
They’ve played 58 different opponents; hosted the All “A” 10th Region Tournament; the Paris/Bourbon County Holiday Tournament as well as hosting the last 37th and 40th district tournament.
The Ladyhounds have also played some of the best girls’ basketball programs in the state at Earl Redwine Gym. Some of those teams are DuPont Manual, Lexington Catholic, Lexington Christian, Scott County, Henry Clay, Rockcastle County, Breathitt County, Paul L. Dunbar, Madison Central, Lafayette, Sheldon Clark and Paducah Tilghman just to name a few.
As far as head coaches, Judy Cox has the most wins at Earl Redwine Gym with 37. Terence Brooks totaled 34, Connie Appelman 10, Andwele French 9; current Coach Cary Barr has 8, Jim Jones 4 and Mark Williams 1.
Overall, the Ladyhounds have won 103 games and lost 92 at the time of this writing at Earl E. Redwine Gymnasium!
