The Greyhounds got off to a good start with a 3-2 home win over Covington Latin on Wednesday, August 15th. Logan West started the scoring for the Hounds with shot from outside the right corner of the eighteen that found its way into the top left ninety of the frame. Covington Latin tied the match in the first half with a chip shot over the outstretched hands of Freshman goal keeper Trenton Clark. The score remained 1-1 at the end of the period.
Senior Ethan Gibson put a well placed ball in the net on a cross by fellow Senior Nick Pridemore at the 55th minute of the second half. The score was tied again at the 65th minute when Paris was slow to defend off of a quick restart by Latin. The victory was sealed when Junior Blanton Park played a deflected ball back into Sophomore Andy Smith who made a quick shot in traffic with only eight minutes remaining. Goal Keeper Clark, who is credited with the win, made a nice one-on-one save with only minutes remaining for Covington Latin’s last remaining shot on frame.
Paris Coach Bill Gibson said he was pleased to start the season off with a win, but said his team still needs work on maintaining possession in the attacking third of the field. “Our defense is playing well in most positions and our passing and runs are good until we get to the eighteen. We seem to implode at that point with either our players trying to do too much one-on-one or poorly placed shots right into the hands of the goal keeper.”
The Hounds travel to Berea on Thursday with both teams sporting a 1-0-0 record.
