Alumni Interviews--Where Are They Now?
Russ Burris from Think First
February 21, 2013Centralia High School Activities
Guest speaker Russ Burris from the Brain and Spinal Cord Injury program came to Centralia High School to talk to our freshman about the importance of our spinal and brain areas. He also talked about how certain injuries of those specific areas occur and what kind of side effects they cause. Russ talked about his own personal experience with spinal cord injuries. Russ was in a car accident in his earlier days and is still currently in a wheelchair. Russ grew up in a small town a lot smaller than Centralia. He mentioned that the Think First program always came to his school and he had always thought the accidents they had talked about could never happen in a small town. He thought it could never happen to him. “I wish I would have taken what I was told at those assemblies seriously and maybe my life would be a little different as you guys can see,” said Russ. He also told students not to take anything for granted because, “It’s the one time it actually does happen to you that it ruins your life.”
