Q&A with Lauren Seider

November 26, 2012
By dixon dollens of Centralia High School Activities

Q: What are your strengths and weaknesses as an artist?

A: I'm really good at figuratine art, which are art pieces with people in them. I usually pick up the technical aspects of using a medium really fast, but the conceptual aspects are always hard for me. Sometimes I overthink things.

Q: What techniques do you use as an artist?

A: As an artist a person uses principles of design all the time. Composition, color, and line are all things important to understand as an artist. Depending on the medium, there are all kinds of techniques a person can learn and experiment with.

Q: What are some of your art pieces?

A: I have many pieces, most using colored pencil and watercolor. I recently completed a handmade, illustrated book and am currently painting on a large self-portrait.

Q: What media do you use often?

A: I love to use ink, watercolor, and colored pencil.  I often incorporate mixed media elements in my pieces.

Q: What's your favorite type of art style?

A: I love art incorporating stylized figures that blend cartoon and realistic elements. I love art that uses basic, bright colors balanced with a neutral palette.

Q: Are there any other ways you express your creativity?

A: I also enjoy writing poetry and short stories with my creative writing class, which is a good way of expressing myself.
