Home » Key Club NewsKey Club Blood DriveMarch 8, 2012 By Becky Tuggle of Centralia High School ActivitiesKey Club is sponsoring a blood drive on March 12th. It will be held at the First Christian Church from 12:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. Anyone under the age of 16 must have a parents' permission form, which you can recieve from Ms. Admire or from Cathy in the office. There is going to be a competition between Boone county schools this time to see who can get the highest percentage of their student population to give blood. The blood unit goal for this drive is 33. Tips for healthier blood: Eat iron-rich foods such as red meats, oysters, clams, soybeans, dried beans, whole-grain cereals, and breads. Eat foods rich in vitamin C as well, such as kiwi, cantaloupe, strawberries, broccoli, tomatoes, peppers, potatoes, cabbage and spinach. Facts about blood: On any given day, an average of 38,000 units of blood cells are needed for hospital patients in the United States. In the US, someone needs a blood transfusion about every two seconds. People in car accidents who suffer massive blood loss may require transfusions of more than 50 pints of red blood cells.
