2012 SPRING NEWSLETTER

SPRING CLASSIC

The Panthers had another great showing at our annual spring classic performance meet vs Mounds View on March 6th. Although our football numbers were down by about 20 from last year, all who competed did a great job.  Of the 100 athletes, 55 were from slp and 40 were football players.  Events included bench, clean, 40, shuttle, jump rope and vertical jump. The panthers prevailed in 7 of the 12 wt. classes.

NSC LIFTING CHAMPIONSHIPS

Wednesday, April 11th we will host the annual conference lifting championships.  It will consist of a bench press and power clean.  It will be held in our performance gym at 6:30.  Weigh ins start at 5:30.  All the teams from the north suburban have been invited so let’s be ready to defend our title (on and off the field!) Let us know if there is a conflict.

PGA CARDS

Coach Stewart has a few 2 for 1 green fee pga cards, good at a number of Minnesota golf courses.  Contact him if you want one.

WINTER SPORTS

Great job to everyone who just finished a winter sport. We had some wrestlers, basketball players (a huge number of freshmen), and some swimmers this winter. We know all your hard work this winter will show on the field next fall.  Keep it going this spring by getting out for another sport – there are many to choose from, and they will all help you improve.

WINTER WT ROOM

For all those not playing a winter sport, we had a successful after school strength and speed program.  The success of our football program has started in the wt room and many players are working hard at getting stronger and faster.  We saw recent evidence of our progress at the spring classic with many new max’s and personal best times.  Great job to captain Daulton Olinger and freshman Zach Resch who were there 59 of 60 sessions (including open wt. room over spring break!) Others with good attendance include Blake Johnson 57, Henry Ohren 54, Max Luppino 54, Lencho Omer 53 and CJ Janu 52. Great job to all those that worked so hard this winter.  Now we need to find a way to keep our strength gains going.  We have an all time record low football players lifting in class right now. 3.  We have never had less than 20 football players lifting in class so I hope everyone is finding another time to get in their strength training.  In after school this week was track, girls softball, golf and some 9th grade baseball players. If after school doesn’t work, we are open Tuesday and Friday mornings from 6:35 – 7:10.

UNFINISHED BUSINESS

The team came up with the motto of ‘Unfinished Business’ for this coming season.  After winning 5 of the last 7 NSC championships, we were ready for the next level. When we accomplished that and won the section last year, we were left with a bitter taste watching Bemidji go all the way to the state championship.  Remember the unfinished business this spring as your classes are getting tough or you see other kids not following training rules, or things are getting tougher in the wt room.  To beat a team like Bemidji, we are going to have to have everyone  give a little more (some guys a lot more)  It’s not easy but reaching a big goal never is.  There is no better feeling than have a team sacrifice and work hard and reach their full potential.  Great motto 2012 team – now lets go out and take care of it.

COLLEGE PANTHERS

We have had several seniors commit to colleges and plan on playing next fall. Bobby Brown signed a letter of intent to Northern State.  Noah Waiwaiole signed with St. Cloud State ans well as Ben Johnson with Bemidji State.  Cam Musselman is also planning on attending Bemidji State.  Jordan Thimmesh-Slepica is going to St Thomas, Nathan Dykes to St. Scholastica and Dequan Mosely will be playing at Rochester CC

MOSELY IN ALL-STAR GAME

Congratulations to Dequan, who will be representing the North team in the Minnesota all-star game this summer.  The game is at TCF stadium June 30th at 1pm.  If you need tickets, see Coach Schlieff.

Great job in the classroom this winter to these A and B honor roll  football players.  Remember, we finished 2nd in the conference gpa battle losing by  .1. 3.2 to 3.1, so we need everyone giving their full attention in the classroom this spring and working as hard as they can

PASSING LEAGUE

We will be holding 7 on 7 passing league this summer on our field. We have been at Northwestern College the last 12 years so this will be new  for everyone. Games will be vs Mounds View, Centennial and Coon Rapids at 6p.m.  We will be wearing helmets  passing league so make sure you are signed up for mini camp (to get your equipment)

NEW SUMMER STRENGTH

The plan as of the end of March is to lift Mon, Wed, Fri this summer. Mon we will lift after mini camp practice, wed we will lift in the evening, before or after 7 on 7, and Fri we will lift in the morning.  We think this will be a great addition to our strength program.  Make sure you get registered online asap.  The mini camp and wt room will be together.

NEW MAX’S

We are starting to get some new max’s filled in. They are posted in the wt room, if yours are not correct, please come to the wt room and fix it.  Or better yet, come April 11th to the conference lifting championships and show us your new max.  Here are our latest max’s
