The agency announced that Tuesday at around 9:45 a.m that they had lost communications to a international space station. Mission controllers have only been able to communicate with the crew for a short period of time while the station was over russia.
Communication with the station was lost when an onboard data relay system malfunctioned during a software update. The station's primary computer switched to a backup system, but that system didn't allow the station to transmit. According to commander kevin Ford he says the crew is doing “very well.”
Mission control was able to get a hold of Russian ground controllers and they were able to them the crew to hook up a back up computer and begin the process of restoring the communication process. This is not the first time NASA has lost contact with any of the stations, but this one didn't last very long and is now back on track and working again.
