Home » General NewsSteroidsFebruary 8, 2013 By Jason Kinner of Paintsville Jr Sr High SchoolMany people know or have heard about someone who has taken steroids. But what do steroids do to your body? What are the long term effects of this performance enhancing drug? Some short term side effects of anabolic steroids are acne and gynecomastia development in men. Steroids can also be life threatening because they can cause heart attacks and liver cancer. Most are reversible if the user stops taking the drug for good, but some are permanent, such as voice deepening in women. Steroids also have mental effects on the abuser. Steroids increases testosterone levels, which cause the user to become extremley agressive. They also cause sleep disorders, paranoia, and hallucinations. These side effects can cause the user to become depressed and suicidal. Steroids can also cause infections because many abusers who inject anabolic steroids use non sterile injection techniques. Steroids can also cause cysts, oily hair and skin, liver tumors, and blood clots preventing blood to flow smoothly which damages your heart. It is safe to say that taking steroids is definitely not something to risk because the bad out weighs the good. Steroids are also illegal and considered cheating. You will be much happier with yourself if you work hard and earn your body, than taking steroids and having to look yourself in the mirror everyday knowing that you're a cheater.
