Bobby Mullins Scholarship

May 15, 2012
Paintsville Jr Sr High School

Two happy members of the Paintsville High School  Class of 2012 received the highly anticipated annual Bobby Mullins Memorial Scholarship in an announcement Monday afternoon in the PHS gym.
Madison Houston and Ariana Doderer were chosen by the Scholarship Board as announced by Bobby Mullins' sister, Judge Susan Mullins Johnson.
The scholarship pays the recipients' chosen college $2,000-per semester for 8 semesters, for a total of $16,000.  The only restriction is the school must be within Kentucky, not out-of-state.
The first scholarship was awarded to the Class of 1981 in memory of PHS Class of 1980 graduate Bobby Mullins, who died in a tragic car accident a few hours after his graduation ceremony.
It has been awarded to one or two members of every graduating PHS class since 1981 to allow others to follow their dream of a college education, that Bobby Mullins was not able to do.
Madison Houston, 17, is the daughter of Chris and Paula Houston of Staffordsville.  She plans to study nursing at the Big Sandy Community Technical College in Prestonsburg.
Ariana Doderer, 19, is the daughter of Hans and Angelia Doderer of Oil Springs.  She plans to study art education at Morehead State University.
