What if the American History that we are taught in school is wrong? What if everything that historians, architects, and professors accept to be true about our history is a lie? Would it change your feelings about your country? It is now generally acknowledged that Christopher Columbus was not the first one to discover America, but was the first one in history to receive credit for it. However, what if I told you that the Minoans, the ancient Greek culture that allegedly met its demise by “sea peoples,” traveled to America in ancient times in order to mine for copper in the Michigan Great Lakes to fuel the Bronze Age? What if I said that there is a 12th century Englishman buried on a mountain in Arizona, with a tombstone inscribed in Old English, four hundred years before Columbus? Moreover, what if it came to light that the ancient Mayans once lived in Georgia, leaving monuments behind that historians refuse to accredit to belonging to them? The above listed scenarios are just a few examples of the secret American history unearthed by Scott Wolter in his History Channel television show, America Unearthed. In this program, Wolter pursues the taboo part of history that is not acknowledged by mainstream archeologists in order to discover the truth behind our past. The show is just in the first few episodes of its first season, but already so much has come to light that has people opening their eyes to the possibilities—a slab found in Michigan with ancient Minoan hieroglyphs, Mayan-like monuments in Georgia, Old English writing chiseled on the side of a mountain in Arizona, and so much more. Admittedly, this television series is highly controversial, and it is by no means earning “rave reviews” with various internet bloggers, who view Wolter as a conspiracy theorist that is attempting to make his audience believe anything without backing it with hard evidence. However, despite this, the show is still interesting to watch, and it makes you wonder about the possibilities. Is there a secret American history that no one knows about? Is it possible that ancient humans discovered America thousands of years before Columbus? Chances are, we will probably never know definitively, but it is still an interesting prospect to ponder. America Unearthed airs every Friday night at 9 p.m. on the H2 History channel.
