Tigers vs. Gators

Nathan Smith

The Missouri Tigers traveled to Gainesville, Florida to face the Florida Gators for Week 11 of the college football season. Florida was ranked seventh in the nation and had a record of 7-1 going into the game. Missouri, on the other hand, was unranked and they were an even 4-4, prior to the game. Florida was hoping for a win to keep them among the top of the SEC, and the Tigers were wanting to pull off a major upset.

This game had very little scoring by either team. It was mainly a defensive battle and both teams knew they needed to force turnovers and punts in order to win the game. Missouri scored first in the game, but it was not until midway into the second quarter; it was a one-yard touchdown run by Kendial Lawrence to give the Tigers a 7-0 lead. The Tigers kept this lead throughout the half and went into the locker rooms ahead of the seventh ranked Gators.

Florida scored five minutes into the third quarter to tie the game up at seven; it was a 36-yard run by Omarius Hines. When the fourth quarter came around, both teams were pretty positive that a touchdown would be plenty because of the way the game was going. Early in the fourth, the Gators scored again on a 45-yard passing touchdown from Jeff Driskel to Mike Gillislee. Missouri had plenty of time to score, but could not.

Missouri had 12 more first downs than Florida, and also converted 6-16 third downs. They also had more total yards, and out passed the Gators. The only thing that Florida Gators had more of was rushing yards. James Franklin threw four interceptions,  a main reason why the Tigers could not pull off the win.
