Home » Newspaper NewsOrigin of the Candy AppleOctober 16, 2012 Owensville High SchoolOrigin of the Candy Apple Cody Goggin When thinking of fall, some think of leaves, or Thanksgiving, or football… but then there are the people that think of food. For those people, there are some specific foods that come to mind just for fall. Candy apples are one of them. Candy apples are a favorite treat for many around the world as a Halloween tradition. Candy apples were invented by William W. Kolb in 1908. A candymaker from New Jersey, created the candy apple “while experimenting in his candy shop with red cinnamon candy for the Christmas trade, he dipped some apples into the mixture and put them in the windows for display.” After making this a tradition to sell at his shop, candy apples became popular in New Jersey and eventually spread to the rest of the nation. When you are eating this fall, try new things, you may like them. One of those new things could be a candy apple, or it could be a childhood favorite; however, no matter what it is, every time you eat it you can credit the pleasant taste of the candy apple to William Kolb and think of the state of New Jersey. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Candy_apple#History
