Mini Husky Football
Grades 1 and 2

 This program is for 1st and 2nd graders.  This program will tentatively start on September 8th and continue through September 29th. 

(Four sessions at 1 1/4 hours per time).  The times of the sessions are 9 AM-10:15 AM on Saturday mornings. 

(Dates:  September 8, 15, 25, and 29 with the rain date being October 6).  There is no football equipment required:  only shorts, shoes and shirt.  This program will focus each week on a football skill followed by games such as flicker ball, interception, and more.  There is no clinic for this program.  Location:  OHS Practice Field.  This is a great program to introduce children to some football skills, along with having some fun!  Cost is $26.00 if registered by July 25th-August 8th.  Price includes a t-shirt!

Mighty Husky Football
Grades 3 and 4

This tackle football program is for 3rd and 4th graders. Games are played on Thursday evenings (usually) and/or Saturday mornings.  Practices are held when coaches schedule them.  The coaches will call the players after the coaches meeting on August 23.  The program continues through mid October.  Cost is $40.00 if registered July 25th thru August 8th for City Residents/Non-Resident.  Cost after August 11th:  $50.00.

Grades 5 and 6

This tackle football program is for 5th and 6th graders. Games are played on Monday and/or Tuesday evenings and/or Saturday mornings.  Practices are held when coaches schedule them.   Program begins at the end of August.  The coaches will call the players after the coaches meeting in late August.  The program continues through mid October.  Cost is $40.00 if registered July 25th thru August 8th for City Residents/Non-Resident.  Cost after August 8th:  $50.00.

Students in grades 3-6 no longer need to weigh in at the Park and Recreation office when they register.

We will be taking registrations for Parks and Recreation football at the Owatonna Huskies Football Camp on Wednesday, August 8th at the OHS Football Field.

Equipment needed for 3rd thru 6th grade football:  A well fitting helmet with face bar and chin strap, shoulder pads, mouth guard, football pants and multi-purpose shoes.  A facemask which met the NOCSAE test standard at the time of manufacture.  The multiple bar type is recommended.  The face mask shall be made of material designed to be non-breakable with rounded edges, and those constructed of metal shall have the surface covered with resilient material designed to prevent chipping, burns, burrs, or abrasiveness, which would endanger players.  A helmet, which met the NOCSAE, test standard at the time of manufacture and has a visible exterior warning label regarding the risk of injury.  A properly fastened chinstrap shall secure the helmet.  Optional:  football shoes.  The Park and Recreation Department will supply the football jerseys.  If you have used equipment you would like to donate, we appreciate it.  Bring it to the Park and Recreation Office.

IMPACT Sporting Goods will have helmets, shoulder pads, pants and other accessory football equipment available for purchase on Wednesday August 8 at the Huskies Football Camp at OHS. Buy your gear there and a portion of the proceeds will go to support Owatonna Football!

Volunteer Coaches Needed:   Volunteer coaches are always needed for the Football Program. We depend on volunteer coaches for these programs. If interested, please call the Park and Recreation Department at 444-4321 for more information. Coaches meeting will be held Monday August 20 at 5:45 PM in the lower level of the City Administration Building.

  ***There will be a clinic for all coaches and participants (GRADES 3-6) on August 23rd, from 5:45 to 7:15 pm at the OHS Football Stadium.
