Lightning Does Strike Twice
October 12, 2013Owatonna Football
For the second consecutive week, the Owatonna Huskies had their Big 9 football game shortened due to lightning. Ths Huskies were leading Mankato East 42-6 with just under 9 minutes left in the third quarter when lightning was spotted and the teams were taken off the field. After a delay of just over an hour, the teams were ready to return when more lightning flashed and the game was called.
The Cougars opened the game with an 80 yard scoring drive to take a 6-0 lead, but that was the only success they would have on the evening. Ty Sullivan returned the ensuing kickoff 88 yards to tie the game, and with the successful PAT, the Huskies were in the lead for good.
The win assured the Huskies of at least a tie for the Big 9 Conference title. They will be alone on the top if they defeat Rochester JM in the final regular season game on Wednesday night at home.
