April 16, 2012By Desarae Gleason of Overland High School
Overland runners came to run FAST at the Runners Roost Invitational Saturday April 14th 2012. Many season bests were set on this day.
On the mens distance side Mohamed Abdi ran a season bests in the 1600m with a time of 4:41 and 800m in 2:03. Aldair Cid-Gonzalez also set a season best in the 1600m with a time of 4:45. The girls distance also put up a fight to get season bests, Hannah Harris ran a 2:45 for the 800m and Ilse Amateco ran her fastest time in the 1600m with a 6:22. Awesome job distance squad!
The distance squads were not the only ones who brought home medals this weekend, we had many season bests on the sprinting side as well.
DeAnte Manlove ran 11.35 in the 100m and Eric Cheeseboro ran a 23.47 in the 200m. Jergen Stanford is finally getting his speed legs back after an injury that kept him out of practice a few weeks. However Jergen hasn’t skipped a beat with this injury; he was flying this weekend with a time of 11.09 in the 100m and 22.55 in the 200m. The mens 4x1 team which consisted of Tre Thomas, Jergen Stanford, DeAnte Manlove, and Eric Cheeseboro placed 7th with a time of 43.80 only 1 second off of the 1st place team of 42.7. Overland also competed in the 4x2 and 4x4 relays. The 4x2 relay ran their 2nd fastest time of the season with a time of 1:35 the team was made up with Jamal Johnson, Kevin Proser, Tre Thomas, and DeAnte Manlove. The 4x4 team also posted their 2nd fastest time this season with a 3:44 consisted of Mohamed Abdi, Kevin Prosser, Dayveon Phoenix, and Dominican Waynewood, this race is by far the hardest race, these guys dug deep to find the speed they needed after an already great job in their previous events. Way to work hard relay teams! Aujonte Roper was our lone guy in field events. Aujonte did an outstanding job in the shotput and was 15th out of 32 competitors. Way to go!
On the ladies side Tyler Allen and Brianna Pardner were tearing up the field in the 100m and 200m. Brianna Pardner had season bests in both the 100 and 200. Brianna ran the 100m in 12.37 and 200m in 25.46. Tyler Allen with season best as well was nipping at Brianna’s heels with a 12.74 in the 100 and 25.77 in the 200. Brianna and Tyler also tore it up in the field events, Brianna took 3rd place in the long jump and Tyler took 13th in the triple jump. Way to ladies!
Coaches Viewpoint: We are extremely grateful with the hard work and dedication with this team. They are practicing hard everyday and are always looking for ways to improve. Their hard work is definitely a direct correlation to the times they are posting in races. We are excited to see these times at this point of the season and cannot wait to see what the end result will be.
