BT&F D1 STATE FINALS: Lakewood St. Edward wins title

COLUMBUS – Lakewood St. Edward won the 2012 OHSAA Division I boys state track and field state tournament June 1-2 at Jesse Owens Memorial Stadium at The Ohio State University in Columbus.
The Eagles scored 48 points to win their first track championship, with Lancaster and Pickerington North tying as the D1 runner-up with 36 points apiece. It was Pickerington North’s highest finish ever in the state track meet, while Lancaster finished as the runner-up for the third time, the last coming in 1985.
Lakewood St. Edward junior Anthony Young finished first in the 200, second in the 100, and anchored the winning 4x100 relay team with freshman Shaun Crawford, senior Quincy Jones, and sophomore Steele Wasik. Crawford finished eighth in the 200, while the Eagles also received contributions from Wasik (third in the 110 hurdles) and senior Lavonne Gauthney, who finished third in the shot put with a throw of 57’11 1/2”.
New boys state records were established by Berea’s Donovan Robertson in the 300 hurdles (35.96 – meet, stadium, and state records), Reynoldsburg’s Tsehaye Hiluf in the 3200 (8:55.04 – meet, stadium, and state records), and Gahanna Lincoln’s Jacob Blankenship in the pole vault (17’ 2” – meet, stadium, and state records).
