BT&F D2 STATE FINALS: Dayton Dunbar wins boys title

COLUMBUS – Dayton Dunbar won the boys team title in Division II at the 2012 OHSAA state track and field championship June 1-2 at Jesse Owens Memorial Stadium at The Ohio State University in Columbus.
Dayton Dunbar’s senior-laden 4x400 relay team of Ira George, Eric Blair, Michael Ohiembor, and LaTrell Turner repeated as state champions, broke their own meet record, and scored the Wolverines’ final 10 points of the meet to earn the state title with 49 points, just edging defending state champion Akron St. Vincent-St. Mary (46).
It was Dunbar’s seventh state track and field title, with the last coming in 1990.
In addition to Dunbar’s first-place finish in the 4x400, it also received contributions from Blair (second) and senior Nicholas Lane (eighth) in the 110 hurdles, Lane in the 300 hurdles (third), senior Michael Ohiembor in the long jump (fourth), and LaTrell Turner in the 100 (seventh) and 200 (fourth). The Wolverines’ 4x200 relay team of senior Jason Holloway, Blair, Lane, and Turner also finished third.
In addition to the record-breaking Dayton Dunbar 4x400 relay team, an OHSAA boys state meet record was also set by the Dayton Thurgood Marshall 4x200 relay team of Tavonn Crisp, Alante Oliver, Vayante Copeland, and Joe Ballard (1:26.98).
