BT&F D3 STATE FINALS: Gahanna Columbus Academy dominates

COLUMBUS – The Gahanna Columbus Academy boys won the Division III team title at the 2012 OHSAA state track and field tournament June 1-2 at Jesse Owens Memorial Stadium at The Ohio State University in Columbus.
Gahanna Columbus Academy tallied three first-place finishes, two second-place finishes, and a third-, fourth-, fifth-, and sixth-place finish to score 64 points and run away with the D3 title, the school’s third track state championship. Runner-up Cleveland Villa Angela-St. Joseph finished with 31 points.
Columbus Academy received championship performances from senior Jon Michael Hilsheimer (800), sophomore Jack Lint (300 hurdles), and the 4x800 relay team of Hilsheimer, junior Dominic Facciolla, senior Matthew Tamarkin, and sophomore Jake Tuckerman. Facciolla also finished second in the 800 and third in the 1600, and he was the second leg of the runner-up 4x400 relay team, where he was joined by junior Tyler Gittins, Hilsheimer, and Tamarkin.
The Vikings also received point contributions from Gittins in the 300 hurdles (fourth), Lint in the high jump (fifth), and its sixth-place 4x100 relay team of Gittins, junior Jared Harris, junior Alleluia Tyus, and senior Carlton Morris.
Runner-up Villa Angela-St. Joseph won the 4x200 relay and finished second in the 4x100 relay. Both units consisted of junior Devon Bolden and seniors Rodney Burse, Marcellus Embry, and Milton Germany. Burse and Bolden also finished fourth and seventh, respectively, in the 100, while Germany finished third in the 100.
A Division III OHSAA boys meet record was set by Louisville St. Thomas Aquinas junior Cory Glines in the 1600 (4:12.93).
