Home » Boys' Basketball NewsTigers bounce back in Collinsville Schnucks Holiday Basketball ClassicJanuary 3, 2011 Oakville High SchoolAfter dropping a heartbreaking 53-50 decision to Plainfield South in the first round of the Collinsville Schnucks Holiday Basketball Classic, the Oakville Tigers bounced back with wins over Riverview Gardens, Douglas MacArthur High School of Decatur, Ill. and Glenwood High School of Chatham, Ill. to win the consolation bracket of the tournament. Against Plainfield South, the Tigers (5-5) fell behind 22-19 at halftime but tied the game at 34-34 going into the fourth quarter. But a 19-16 run by Plainfield South tripped up the Tigers for their fifth loss of the season. Oakville's Dan Zehner led the Tigers with 14 points and five rebounds while Javier Duren racked up 12 points, five rebounds and three assists in the loss to the Cougars. Plainfield South's Edvinas Presniakovas led all scorers with 19 points and 10 rebounds. Zachary Snowden and Willian Nixon also scored in double figures with Snowden recording 11 points, four rebounds and two assists. Nixon put together a 10 point effort that included four rebounds and four blocked shots against the Tigers. The Tigers would bounce back from their first round loss to Plainfield South with a 56-41 win over Riverview Gardens. Zehner once again led the Tigers with 19 points and three rebounds while Austin Gillmann put together a 14 point effort that also included seven rebounds and five blocked shots. Tyrin Williams led the Rams with 17 points, three rebounds, two steals, two assists. Lavell Meeks also scored in double figures for Riverview Gardens with 11 points and nine rebounds in the loss to Oakville. Oakville would continue their solid play against Douglas MacArthur with a 59-51 win over the Generals as the Tigers out rebounded their opponent 31-24. Duren led all scorers with 23 points, four rebounds, one assist and one steal in the win over the Generals. Zehner contributed 14 points and 11 rebounds while Gillmann put together a 10 point showing that included seven rebounds. MacArthur's Jatavious Lee led the Generals with 18 points, four assists and three steals in the loss to Oakville. Kiston Lee also scored in double figures with 14 points, five assists, four steals and four rebounds. In the championship game against Glenwood, the Tigers took a 21-15 advantage going into halftime and didn't look back as Oakville walked away with a 44-38 win and the consolation bracket championship. Duren led Oakville with 16 points and six rebounds while Zehner recorded 12 points, two assists and one blocked shot in the win over Glenwood. The Titans were led by T.J. Gates' 20 point effort that included five rebounds and one assist in the loss to Oakville. Oakville returns back to the hardwood this Tuesday as the Tigers host Lafayette (5-5) in the opening game of Suburban West Conference play at 7 p.m.
