During this Christmas Season of 2012 members of the Oak Hills Girls Varsity Basketball team chose to combine their talents off the court. The community service that members of the team donated their time was the Angel Tree Program at Crossroads.
Here is a little information on the Angel Tree program.
The Angel Tree Program comes around every Christmas season. It’s a chance for us to give gifts to children in need—some of whom have a parent in prison, some we know through Whiz Kids and other relationships in the area. Sadly, our area has the third highest poverty rate for children. We want to follow God’s direction to care for these children.
This is year 12 for Angel Tree at Crossroads.
– We’ve provided over 25,000 gifts over the last 11 years.
– This year, we’ll provide over 5000 gifts.
Though these big numbers are amazing, the most incredible thing is the small moment when a child receives a gift with the message “God loves you” or “Mommy will be home soon” written on the gift tag. Opening a cool toy or game that was purchased specifically for them also brings joy to what could be a very sad, scary time during the holiday.
Delivering the gifts to the families is simply amazing if you have never done it before. All ages are welcome and needed (kids make the best elves). It is a beautiful way to be God’s hands and feet here in our area at Christmas time, bringing bags of love to families in need."
In addition, this year they collected over 6,000 gifts for children in Cincinnati. All of the gifts are purchased by Crossroads members.
The 9 members who participated from the Oak Hills Girls Varsity Basketball team are:
The girls picked up bags full of gifts for 4 families (15 total children) from Crossroads on Saturday, December 15th.
The girls delivered the gifts to the 4 families and were able to meet and interact with the families.
Thank you girls for participating and supporting the Angel Tree Program and making a difference in 15 child's life this Christmas.
Merry Christmas to all Highlander Athletes and Sports Fans!
