STEVENSVILLE 26 POLSON 31
At Stevensville, fourth-year starting quarterback Craig Bagnell threw for two scores and ran for another as the Northwestern A Pirates started the campaign with a defeat of Southwestern A Stevensville.
Bagnell brought Polson to within 8-3 with a 32-yard field goal before giving the Pirates the lead on a 30-yard touchdown pass to Ryan Kelley. Bagnell connected with Joe Andrews on a 35-yard TD strike in the second quarter, then iced the win with a gallop from 6 yards out for Polson's final score.
Tim Rausch, who finished with 159 yards rushing, added a 91-yard TD run for Polson (1-0), which travels to face defending State A runner-up Dillon next Friday.
Stevensville sophomore quarterback Logan Connors was 9-for-17 in the air with a pair of scoring passes, including a 60-yarder to Ethan Pateman. Pateman ran 23 times for 106 yards and Richie Brushia added a 48-yard touchdown run for the Yellowjackets (0-1).
