BELGRADE – Frenchtown’s Morgan Ray tossed four innings of scoreless relief to lead the North to a 4-1 win over the West in the inaugural Nicholas Bloem Memorial Softball Classic on Saturday.

Ray entered the game in the fourth inning and earned the save. Tessa Hutlgren pitched the first three innings and was credited with the win.

Dani Walker of Deer Lodge, who will play on Montana’s first softball team beginning this fall, was 2 for 3 with a double for the winners. Savanna Voyles was also 2 for 3 with a double.

The North beat the South 5-2 to earn its spot in the championship while the West downed the East 3-2.

The South took a wild 10-9 win over the East in the consolation game.

Sydney Stites was 3 for 4 with a double and two home runs for the South. Megan Byrne of Florence and Brie Clifford of Hamilton each doubled for the winners.

Glacier’s Ali Williams won the home run derby with five dingers. The winner of the catcher pop-to-pop was Walker in 1.5 seconds, while the winner of the outfield pop-to-pop was Great Falls’ Mercedes Bourgeau in 2.81 seconds.
