The West team for Montana’s 68th East-West Shrine Game underwent some turnover, and among the seven new players are Loyola Sacred Heart’s Tony Madsen and Deer Lodge’s Tristen Clark.
The game, which is scheduled to kick off at 7 p.m. Saturday at the Laurel Sports Complex, has a host of Western Montanans suiting up.
The list includes Jaydn Wilson and Tyler Richtmyer of Missoula Sentinel, James Foote and Alex Mustard of Missoula Big Sky, Kole Swartz of Missoula Hellgate and Madsen, Zach Hollenback and Jake McElroy of Loyola Sacred heart.
Area players include Jared Trinastich of Columbia Falls; Noah James, Zach Dennehy and Evan Epperly of Kalispell Glacier; Adam Bradley of Kalispell Flathead; Zach Gavlak of Stevensville; Brady Hislop of Polson; and David Rizzollo, Caleb Thilmony and Sean Foley of Whitefish.
Todd Ogden of Kalispell Glacier and Charlo’s Jacen Petersen are two that gave up their spots on the West roster. Bigfork’s Boyd Rieke was chosen in December but is not playing Saturday.
Also chosen but not playing are the Manhattan duo of Gavin DeJong and Austin Oldenburger. Oldenburger is a Montana State football signee; DeJong is headed to the University of Montana for basketball.
The additions include Boulder receiver Alex Burnett, linebacker Ethan Reich out of Anaconda, Connor Schulte of Butte Central and Johnny Walker out of Butte High.
Loyola’s Joe McElroy is one of the assistant coaches for the West. Dillon’s Rick Nordahl is the head coach, and his other assistants are Steve Vezina of Dillon, Tony Arntson of Helena, Pat Schulte of Butte Central and Jay Frederickson of Ennis.
