DICKINSON, N.D. -- Minot’s Ben Love made six field goals, including one in overtime, to lift North Dakota to a 25-22 victory over Montana in the 21st Knights of Columbus Badlands Bowl on Saturday at the Biesiot Activities Center.
North Dakota led for most of the game, but Montana took a 22-19 lead late in the fourth quarter on a 72-yard touchdown pass from Will Weyer to Bozeman teammate Wyatt David, and a subsequent two-point conversion pass to Great Falls CMR’s Eric Dawson.
But North Dakota put together a last-second drive to tie the game with three seconds remaining on Love’s fifth field goal.
Montana won the coin toss in overtime and chose to play defense first, and held the North Dakotans to a Love field goal. When Montana’s ensuing series stalled, Laurel’s Matthew Martinez-Tillman was called on to attempt a tying field goal, but it missed.
Love was 6 of 7 on field goal attempts.
It was the first game in series history that went to overtime. The win is North Dakota’s first since 2010, and just its sixth all-time.
