Libby clinches berth at state

COLUMBIA FALLS – With her sacrifice fly to left field in the eighth inning, Dayln Germany not only lifted Libby to a 2-1 Northwestern A softball victory over Columbia Falls, she locked up a state tournament berth for the Loggers.

After Libby (4-3 in conference play, 17-4 overall) took a 1-0 lead in the second inning, Ashley Trueblood knocked in a run for the Wildkats (2-5, 8-11-1) in the sixth to ultimately force the extra inning.

Mahalah Wedel – who scored the eventual game-winning run – singled to lead off the top of the eighth. Devon Gallagher also singled and Kelsey Klin drew a walk to load the bases as Germany stepped to the plate.

Germany sent a sac fly to deep left field, which allowed Wedel to touch home and give the Loggers the one-run lead.

Hannah England finished things off from the circle for Libby as she held Columbia Falls scoreless in the bottom of the frame. England pitched all eight innings and tallied 10 strikeouts.

Trueblood finished with 12 K’s for the Wildkats.
