Cowboys win, Cowgirls place 2nd at Miles City Quad

By JOSH SAMUELSON

Star Sports Editor

It wasn’t quite the Miles City Invite, but the Custer County District High School track teams were able to get in some competition last night at the Miles City Community Track.

The Miles City Invite was scheduled for Saturday, but with torrential rains pounding Miles City that morning, the Invite was cancelled. Glendive, Billings Central and Hardin all had last night off, so the four teams met in Miles City for a quadrangular meet.

The Cowboys won a balanced meet that had all four teams score over 100 points. The Cowboys won with 142 points, followed by Glendive with 123, Billings Central with 111 and Hardin with 102.

On the girls’ side, Hardin ran away with the team title with 218 points. The Cowgirls were a distant second with 102 points, followed by Central with 86 and Glendive with 20.

The Cowboys and Cowgirls will be in Glendive this weekend in the final regular-season meet of the year. They will host the Eastern A divisional next Saturday.

Last night, the Cowboys had seven individual champions at the Quad.

Twin brothers Carson and Parker Barnosky won the 800- and 1600-meter runs, respectively. Both were able to hold off Caleb Ware of Hardin in close races.

Ben Herzog won the 110 hurdles and was third in the 300 hurdles. The Cowboy 1600-meter relay team won the event and the 400 relay team was third.

Austin Stradley was second in the 400-meter dash and Brett Keith placed sixth in the race. Braden Marum added a fifth-place finish in the 1600 meters. Adam Glasscock was fourth in the 110 hurdles.

The Cowboys dominated the throwing events. Beau Peaslee won the shot put and Cord Murray won the discus. Peaslee was also second in the discus and fourth in the javelin. Murray placed fourth in the shot put, while Robert Hofer was third and Reilly Connely was fifth to give the Cowboys four of the six places in the shot put.

Also in the discus, Morgan Bishop was third and Kendall Makelky was sixth. Hofer added a sixth place in the javelin.

In the jumps, Caleb Petross won the long jump. Dakota Penrod was third in both the high jump and triple jump. Adam Glasscock was fourth in the high jump.

Evan Haughian was fifth in the pole vault and Mason Dinardi was sixth in the event.

The Cowgirls had three event winners. Emily Regan ran away with the 3200-meter title, Halie Warren won the high jump, and the Cowgirl 1600 relay also earned a win.

On the track, Hunter Doeden was second in the 800 meters and Olivia Blunt was fourth. Grace Cadenas was fifth in the 100-meter dash and Laina Raisler was sixth in the 400 meters. In the hurdles, Faith Martin was second in the 100 hurdles, Meghan Brence was third and Fiona Mott was fifth. Martin was second in the 300-meter hurdles.

Warren added second-place finishes in the long jump and the pole vault. Brence was third in the triple jump and Cadenas was third in the pole vault.

Amanda Letke placed in all three throwing events. She was second in the discus, third in the shot put and fifth in the javelin. Myhia Metzenberg was sixth in the javelin.
