Updated: April 29, 2014

MISSOULA — The Westminster men’s team and Lewis-Clark State women’s team took the top honors at the Frontier Conference Golf Championship at Larchmont Golf Course Tuesday. Montana Tech’s teams both finished in fifth place.

Junior Lee Paulson led the men’s team with a top 10 finish individually. The Manhattan native shot 79-75—73 for a 227 total. Senior Zach Maassen shot a 237 finishing in 22nd in his last outing. Senior Dustin Kaste and Sophomore Sean Ryan finished in 26th at 243. Brian Schwarzkoph was fifth on the Oredigger squad with a 245.

“We were in the hunt yesterday to place higher,” Tech head coach Lee LaBreche said. “It was encouraging to see the younger guys (Lee and Sean) play well today.”

On the women’s side, Kiley McConnell led the Orediggers with a 252. McConnell finished in 11th place in the overall standings. Danielle McCully finished in a tie at 12th with a 256. Nikki Ferradas finished in 25th and Alysha Underwood was in 32nd.

“Kiley and Danielle finished strong today each hitting 82,” LaBreche said. I’m excited and optimistic for next year because the whole women’s team is returning.”

The Westminster College men and Lewis-Clark State women claimed the team titles. Heather Bruce of L-C State won the women’s individual title. Jackie Mee placed fifth as Carroll College claimed took third, behind second-place Rocky Mountain College.

Connor Hausauer won the men’s individual championship to lead Carroll to second place.

Academic All-Conference was also announced today by the Frontier. The men’s team had five on the list: Dustin Kaste, Zach Maassen, Sean Ryan, Brian Schwarzkoph and Alexander Shull. Nikki Ferradas was selected from the women’s team.
