Dillon’s Scott will play basketball at Western
Dillon's Troy Scott drives to the hole during the Beavers' victory over Stevensville in the championship game of the Southwestern A Divisional tournament last month at the Maroon Activities Center.
Troy Scott is staying home.
The Beaverhead County High School star athlete signed to play basketball for Montana Western in Dillon, Bulldog coach Steve Keller said this morning.
“We’re excited that he’s coming,” Keller said.
Scott averaged 21.1 points per game as a senior, leading the Beavers to the Class A state championship game. He was named the Southwestern A MVP.
The 6-foot-4 Scott was named MVP of the Hi-Line All-Star tournament in Havre. He was also named MVP of the boys’ high school division of the Butte Crossroads Shootout last weekend.
Scott will represent Montana in the annual Montana-Wyoming All-Star series in June. Keller will again coach the Montana team.
“I just really like the way he plays on both ends of the court,” Keller said. “He’s got good size, he’s strong, he’s physical.”
Keller said Scott improved his 3-point shooting this past season. Scott hit on 43 attempts from behind the 3-point line.
The coach, though, praised Scott’s ability to get old-fashioned three-point plays.
“I like the way he drives to the hole, draws contact and gets the foul,” Keller said.
Scott played on the 2012 Dillon state basketball championship team as a sophomore. He was a key member of the 2013 Class A state champion Dillon football team.
Keller said Scott was actually offered scholarships to play football and basketball at Western. He considered playing both before finally deciding to focus on basketball.
Scott will redshirt during his freshman year, Keller said.
