Stergar resigns as Central girls soccer coach

Laurie Stergar has stepped down as girls soccer coach at Billings Central.

Stergar guided Central to five straight Class A state championships from 2008 to 2012, and won seven Eastern division championships in eight seasons at the helm.

The Rams beat Columbia Falls 6-0 to win their fifth state title last fall.

After last season, Stergar was named the 2012 Region 6 coach of the year by the National Soccer Coaches Association of America.

Stergar took Central to the playoffs in all eight of her seasons. The Rams appeared in six state championship games in that span.

Central went 74-1 in the last five seasons, with its only defeat coming on the road against Belgrade in 2011. Prior to that loss, the Rams had won 48 consecutive matches.
