Butte Central will likely be without leading scorer Danee Leary at the Class A State girls’ basketball tournament, which starts Thursday at the Butte Civic Center.

Bobby Oler of KXLF reported on Twitter that Leary has a concussion. Leary’s father, Dan, told Oler that he was 95 percent sure Danee Leary wouldn’t play at all during the tournament. She is for sure out for Thursday’s opener against Browning.

BC coach Meg Murphy confirmed that Leary will not play on Thursday.

Leary averaged a team-leading 13.3 points per game during the regular season. She also averaged 8.9 rebounds. Leary scored 21 points in Friday’s semifinal win over Anaconda in the Southwestern A Divisional tournament. She scored 12 in the championship game win over Hamilton.

Leary left the Hamilton game in the second half after being hit in the head while diving for the ball. She left the game, noticeably woozy, and returned to the locker room. She returned to the game a few minutes later and was on the court when the final seconds ticked off in the victory.

The Maroons played without an injured Leary in two games this season. They won both games, beating Dillon 43-21and Livingston 32-22.

Leary, who signed to play basketball at Montana Tech, was a key reserve on BC’s 2011 State championship team. She was a starter on the BC team that returned to the State championship game last season.
