Central's Stergar wins coaching award

INDIANAPOLIS -- Billings Central girls soccer coach Laurie Stergar has been named the 2012 Region 6 coach of the year by the National Soccer Coaches Association of America.

She is now one of eight finalists for the NSCAA national coach of the year award. Stergar will be presented with her regional award at the NSCAA National Convention on Jan. 18 in Indianapolis.

Stergar has led the Central girls to five straight Class A state championships, matching the state record for consecutive girls soccer state titles set by Helena Capital from 1996-2000.

The Lady Rams are 74-1 over the past five seasons. This year's state championship game, a 6-0 win over Columbia Falls, marked the 100th career win for Stergar. She is 100-11-5 in eight seasons at Central.
