STEVENSVILLE – Dani Baker led the way and the Western AA Missoula Big Sky girls’ basketball team held off a late charge in downing Southwestern A Stevensville 43-40 on Tuesday evening.
Baker scored seven of her team-leading 14 points in the first quarter, when the Eagles sprinted to an 18-8 advantage.
Jesse Schafer came off the bench to score 10 for Big Sky, which shot a solid 13 for 16 from the free-throw line.
The Eagles (2-1) led 33-22 at the start of the fourth quarter, before the Yellowjackets rallied behind intense defense to pull close.
Stevensville senior Alycia Sims scored eight of her game-high 15 points over the final eight minutes. Carly Sebastian added 13 points with the help of a trio of 3-point buckets for the Yellowjackets, who slipped to 2-1.

At Kalispell, Kailea Vaudt scored 16 points and Cassi Hashley added 14 to lead the Class AA Wolfpack to a win over Class A Whitefish.
Katie Wiley netted another 12 for Glacier, which improved to 2-0.
The Wolfpack’s Hashley and Rachel Chery each came down with eight rebounds apiece.
The Bulldogs fell to 0-3 and were led by Maura Kalbfleisch, who knocked down the game’s only 3-pointer and finished with a team-high five points.
Simone Craft had four rebounds for Whitefish.
