Dillon 3, Polson 2
POLSON — Polson got a slow start, losing to Dillon in five sets, 25-23, 25-18, 21-25, 19-25, 15-11.
The Pirates, playing without two regular starters, were out of sync in the first two sets, but recovered enough to force a fifth.
“It took us a couple games to get moving,” Polson coach Jan Toth said. “We were just so inconsistent in our play. We missed 13 serves ... We missed three in last game. You can’t do that after you work so hard to gain momentum.”
Heidi Rausch had a match-high 18 kills and was one of three Pirates with two blocks. Shalaina Duford led Polson with 23 digs and 40 assists.
“Dillon’s a tough team,” Toth said. “They’re a big team and have the best libero I’ve seen.”
Polson hosts Frenchtown on Thursday.

Dillon 3, Polson 2
(23-25, 18-15, 25-21, 25-19, 11-15)
At Polson, the long and the short of the Lady Beavers emerging victorious over the host Lady Pirates can be essentially attributed to the long and the short of it. Double digit service errors along with overkills coupled with underkill shots that either strayed long or were too short ultimately undid Polson in this matchup. Not to take anything away from Dillon with their tall tandem of Whitney Southaim and Josee Pendleton, who racked up a couple of dozen if not then some kill shots between the two of them. Compounding these twin towers was the additional trend that Polson was plagued by untimely if not strategically destructive foibles at inopportune junctures that could have shifted momentum toward their favor. Factor in net violations and deficient dig doldrums, had the Lady Pirates been able to merely cut those fractious factors in half, they would have been able to position themselves to win any of the three games they lost. With the postseason looming on the horizon, it is probably just as well that Polson has had it underscored for them by Dillon that they still have work to do on their game consistency. Better now than later during the divisional tournament if they want to buy a repeat ticket to attend state in just a matter of weeks from now. Heidi Rausch and Chloie Huerta provided the bulk of the Polson offensive punch with well over a dozen spikes apiece. Despite some key blocks by Kaelen Wall, Rausch as well as Huerta along with service aces from Mackenzie Banner, Katie Sprague, Chelsea Chowning, Jaiden Toth and Rausch, these positives were not enough to offset the cumulative effect of so many uncharacteristic negatives.
