Livingston scored twice in the second half to tie the match at 3-3 through 80 minutes of regulation play. After two scoreless 10-minute overtime periods, the teams went to a shootout, which the Northern A champion Loggers won 3-1. "It really was totally different than last year when we went into the playoffs, saw Corvallis and beat them 6-0," Libby head coach Matt Warner said. "But this was a better way to win. It kind of woke up the players a bit. It was a tough game. I know I was nervous." The Loggers (12-0) host Hamilton next Saturday in the state semifinals. Valentine scored once in regulation and assisted on the other two goals, including a feed to Ashley Shaw that gave Libby a 3-1 lead in the final minute before the half. Gilden tallied the Loggers' first goal to answer Livingston's Mary MaKris. Gilden, Michelle Wilson and Audra Poppen connected on their attempts during the shootout and the game was called when the Rangers made just one kick in four tries. MaKris led Livingston with two goals. Also, Carolina Kehoe made nine saves to keep the Rangers battling. "Livingston brought a great game," Warner said. "Libby was hot and cold, hot and cold, but (Livingston's) keeper played excellent. She made some beautiful saves against Anna and Jamie, and a couple of others, too; definitely made it interesting." Bry Gordon scored in the sixth minute for Hamilton (11-1-1) and Kelsi Almond made it 2-0 Broncs 12 minutes into the second half. The Panthers controlled the action through the majority of the second half, outshooting Hamilton 9-5, but found the back of the net only when Shelby Erdahl scored with just four minutes remaining in the match. Billings Central 5, Stevensville 0 At Billings, Jackie Elliott scored two goals and assisted on another as the host Rams blanked the Yellowjackets in the first round of the State A playoffs. Elliott found the net just one minute into the match, then scored once more in the second half on a feed from Ryanne Frazier, who also scored twice. Whitefish 4, Frenchtown 0 At Whitefish, the Bulldogs outshot the Broncs 30-2 and Meredeth Reed secured a hat trick as Whitefish cruised in a first-round battle of No. 2 seeds. Reed scored twice off passes from Megan Danczyk - in the 20th and 72nd minutes - and once unasisted in the 46th to lead the second-seeded team from the north. Michaela Millette also scored for the Bulldogs, taking a pass from Natalie Gayner and putting it in the net in the 38th minute. For Frenchtown - the two seed from the south - goalkeeper Aspen Ward was credited with 17 saves. Whitefish will play top-seeded Billings Central in the semifinals. Anto Daoud got the equalizer for Whitefish late in the first half off an assist from John Reimer before Travis Adams netted the game-winner 16 minutes into the second half. The Bulldogs (9-3-1) will host Corvallis on Saturday at 2 p.m. in a semifinal match. Mikey Wall also scored twice, while Kevin Klee and Dominic Lloyd-Randolfi had a goal and an assist each. Cody Linde made one stop in goal for the Rams (10-1-1), who advanced to next week's semifinals. Benjamin Nalls had 16 saves for Stevensville, which finished the year 5-6-1. Corvallis 2, Belgrade 1, OT At Corvallis, senior Cody Pearce scored a goal nine minutes into overtime to guide Corvallis past Belgrade in a first-round playoff matchup. The Blue Devils' Seth Pelkey scored 13 minutes before that to knot the score at 1-1 in the waning moments of regulation. Corvallis (11-2) outshot Belgrade 27-9, including a large advantage in the two 10-minute overtime periods. "We weren't finishing super well but we definitely possessed it better than they did," Blue Devils coach Brock Hammill said. "We had one (goal) in the overtime, but we almost got a couple more." Corvallis plays at Whitefish next Saturday in the state semifinals. Belgrade's starting goal keeper Taylor Benjamin was injured and left the game 10 minutes into the match. Libby 4, Hamilton 2, OT At Libby, Crawford Dinning had a hat trick, including one goal in each overtime period to lift the Northern A Loggers past Southern A Hamilton in a first-round playoff tilt. Steve Dauder scored in the fifth minute for Hamilton before Edson Vences and Dinning scored back-to-back tallies for Libby (10-3-0). Saylor Johnson tied it for the Broncs in the final minute of the first half. Dinning scored the game-winner five minutes into the first overtime session and an insurance goal with two minutes left in the second overtime period. Libby will visit Billings Central for a semifinal match Saturday, while the Broncs finished 8-4-1.
