PREP SOCCER: Stevi boys post first victory of season

  •

BOZEMAN – Payden Belcourt had a goal and two assists Friday in leading the Stevensville boys’ soccer team to its first victory, 4-0, in a Class A nonconference match against Laurel.

Belcourt set the tone in the 25th minute with a goal on a feed from Sam Giese. The score stayed that way until 13 minutes into the second half when Giese found the net on a feed by Joseph Daniels.

Stevensville (1-2) added two insurance goals in the final 10 minutes of the match. Belcourt assisted on both. Yellowjackets coach Ralph Serrette was happy with the outcome but saw room for improvement.

“Actually the boys did not play as well as they did against Libby,” he said of a 4-2 road loss on Tuesday. “It was windy, so that was one of the problems. To win 4-0 was nice but we can play better.”

The Yellowjackets will get the chance on Saturday when they battle Billings Central in Bozeman.
