STEVENSVILLE — Four different players scored goals and Nathan Boone assisted on two scores as Whitefish blanked Stevensville in the Class A season opener for both teams.

Jared Johnson and Jon Pittman, a defender, scored for the Bulldogs in the first half.

Sam Donaldson and Curran Edland had second-half goals.

“We’re happy with the win, but we have a lot to work on,” Whitefish coach O’Brien Byrd said.

“Most of the guys are playing in new positions, so we came out a little rusty. We were stronger in the second half.

PREP SOCCER: Corvallis boys off to fast start

  •

CORVALLIS – Two matches into the 2012 Montana prep soccer season, the Corvallis boys have already matched their win total from last season.

Suffice to say the Blue Devils (2-0) are improved. They showed it on Saturday with a 3-2 win over Class A nonconference foe Livingston (0-2).

“We’re basically picking up from last year because we didn’t lose any of our starters,” Corvallis coach Brock Hammill said.

“We communicate a lot better. That was a problem last year – everybody was just a little timid. Now everybody is moving the ball, talking out there. That’s been the biggest difference.”

Junior striker Cameron Ayers spiked his goals total to four with a pair Saturday. He found the net in the ninth minute on a feed from John Carmona and then broke a 1-1 tie with an unassisted goal in the 32nd minute.

D.J. Pekoc pitched in with an insurance goal to make it 3-1 in the 70th minute and Blue Devils keeper Shelby Gifford finished with 11 saves.
