PITCHER INJURED AT STATE ASA TOURNAMENT IMPROVING
by  Blake Hempstead, Anaconda Leader Sports Editor

Payton Hudson, a pitcher for the 12U Missoula [Lady] Osprey [Black] girls’ A[S]A  softball team who was struck [during the sixth inning] with a comebacker in the eye Sunday in  Anaconda, is listed in stable condition at Seattle’s Harborview  Medical Center, according to a spokesman for the program.

Tim Gray, general manager of the Osprey, said Hudson suffered a skull  fracture and fracture of the orbital socket after being hit with a  comebacker while pitching in the 12u championship game Sunday night at  Charlotte Yeoman Martin Sports Complex.    After receiving trauma care at Community Hospital of Anaconda, Hudson  was transported by Life Flight to Seattle.

Relaying information provided by the family, Gray said “There is no neurological damage and her eye is going to be fine.  All the muscles  and pressures are in a good range. She may require some reconstructive surgery, but that is yet to be determined.”

Hudson was moved from the Intensive Care Unit Monday and is awaiting  further evaluation, but could be released as early as Wednesday if her  condition continues to improve, Gray said.

The Osprey family is keeping their hopes up for a speedy recovery, he  said.    Well wishes for the Hudson family can be forwarded to ladyosprey@thegrays.myrf.net  or by following the Missoula Lady Osprey Fast Pitch Softball Club on  Facebook.
