Legion roundup: Mavericks run win streak to nineWHITEFISH – It took a little longer than usual, but the Class AA Missoula Mavericks clawed out a 6-5 American Legion baseball victory over the Glacier Twins on Monday. After the Twins scored a single run in the bottom of the ninth to send it to extra frames, Jesson Preston’s double in the top of the 14th plated the game-winning tally as the Mavs improved to 10-1 in league and 31-13 overall after collecting their ninth straight win. Tres Cunningham threw seven innings of one-run relief to post the win for Missoula. He allowed seven hits and three walks while striking out four. Nathan Jewett tossed a perfect 14th to earn the save. Alec Bouchee paced the Mavericks by going 3 for 7. Tanner Maier, Slade Heggen and Shane Olson added two hits apiece. Olson had a double and two RBIs as Missoula pounded out 13 hits while facing two Glacier hurlers. Carl Talsma was 2 for 5 with a double and one driven in for the Twins, who slipped to 0-7 in conference games. Red Sox earn co-championship At Lewistown, the Bitterroot Red Sox played host Lewistown to a 1-1 tie through 10 innings and were declared the co-champions with the hosts of the tournament on Sunday. The Red Sox scored their run on a bases-loaded walk to Dylan Burnham. Lewistown, which scored its run in the first inning, had runners on first and third with one out in the 10th. The Redbirds then lofted a fly ball to center field, where Chris Combs fielded the fly, then doubled up the runner trying to score from third. The umpires then called the game a tie. Jake Capko pitched the first nine innings and scattered eight hits. Tuff Price pitched the 10th. Earlier Sunday, the Red Sox beat Gallatin Valley 3-1. Bucs 12, Class A Mavs 8 The Bitterroot Bucs scored a 12-8 win in eight innings over the Class A Missoula Mavericks in the first game of a doubleheader at Lindborg-Cregg Field. The score of the second game was not available at presstime. The Bucs squandered a 7-0 lead in the first game and needed a run in the seventh to send it to extra frames. They plated four in the eighth to make a winner of Brad Schaff, who pitched the first seven innings. Riley Phillips pitched the eighth. Leadoff hitter Dylan Reed drove in three runs and scored four more for the Bucs. Austin Nogle had two hits and two RBIs.
