Walla Walla holds off Mavericks, 6-4The Missoula Mavericks ran into a crafty, college-tested pitcher in Walla Walla left-hander Drew Christina on Friday night. Christina, who threw for Walla Walla Community College earlier this spring, struck out nine in leading his team to a 6-4 win over the host team in the Missoula Mavericks Memorial Tournament at Lindborg-Cregg Field. Christina worked his way out of a bases-loaded jam with two outs in the bottom of the seventh inning, striking out cleanup hitter Nathan Jewett to end the game. Tanner Rheinschmidt went 3 for 4 at the plate to lead Missoula (22-13). The Bears improved to 9-3.
