NORTHWESTERN A DIVISIONAL TRACK: Whitefish boys, Polson girls grab early leads By the Missoulian POLSON - The Whitefish boys and the Polson girls took the lead after Friday's first day of the Northwestern A divisional track meet.
The Bulldogs got a speedy 400-meter win from Anto Daoud and totaled 67 points. Polson is second with 52 and Columbia Falls third with 47.
The Polson girls also got a quick 400 win from Sierra Pete and took a narrow 63-60 lead over Whitefish. Libby is a distant third with 27 points. Seven events for both the boys and girls were contested Friday. The meet wraps up Saturday with the top five placers in each event advancing to next week's State A meet in Butte.
Daoud won the 400 in 50.92 seconds, his best time of the season and one of the top 10 in the state.
Columbia Falls won the 400 relay in 44.05 seconds, its best time of the season and one of the state's best.
Drew Coco, the State A cross country champion, won the 1,600 in 4:35.
Pete took the girls' 400 in 59.1 seconds, her season best and the seventh quickest in the state entering divisionals.
Adessa Durglo of Ronan-St. Ignatius won the triple jump with a hop, skip and a jump of 35 feet. That ranks in the top 10 marks in the state.
Polson also received wins from its 400 relay team and from Tara Johnson, who took the pole vault at 10 feet.
