WHS has 2 new head coaches

Sean Duff and Erin Morrison have been named to head coaching positions at Whitefish High School.

WHS activities director Jackie Fuller announced in a Wednesday press release that Duff will direct the girls basketball program, and Morrison girls soccer.

Duff replaces Tim Olson, who recently stepped down after three seasons. Duff was Olson's assistant coach.

Olson was 29-38 and led the WHS girls to one state tournament appearance.

Olson previously served as an assistant boys basketball coach at WHS for three seasons.

"It had nothing to do with the coaching world at all," Olson said of why he's leaving.

"The coaches were great, the girls were great, the administration was great. The main reason, I have two boys - one entering high school and one in junior high. I don't want to miss the opportunity to watch them play."

Olson said he would like to return to coaching "at some point."

Morrison replaces Lini Reading, who resigned as head coach this spring.

"Erin will do a wonderful job for us," Fuller said.

"She is energetic and so excited about being a Bulldog."

Morrison is from Park City, Utah, and played college soccer at Notre Dame De Namur University in San Diego.

Reading coached the Bulldogs for 15 seasons. During that time, WHS won two Class A state championships (2001 and 2006) and finished second three times (2002, 2005 and 2007).

WHS finished third, all classes, twice (1997 and 1999); and fourth twice (1994 and 2000).

Only once did Whitefish not qualify for postseason play under Reading. That was in 2002.

Reading is stepping away to spend more time with her family.

"It's not about records, not about win-loss, it's always been about the game," she said of her coaching focus.

"I hope it was a learning experience for the kids. I feel so special to have had an opportunity to be a tiny, tiny part of those girls' lives. If I had any impact at all, it was so worth it."
