Lady Rangers Run Winning Streak to 5 Games

SENATOBIA – Northwest rallied from just its third halftime deficit of the season and used a career-high 26 points and 13 boards from sophomore Carshava Sutton to hold off Jackson State on Tuesday night, 74-68.
Northwest ran its season-long winning streak out to five games in improving to 8-2 overall, while Jackson State dropped to 5-6 on the year. The teams split the season series.
The Lady Rangers scored the first six points of the game and took an early 9-2 lead with 16:10 left in the half after Tenesha Woods' 3-point basket.
Northwest missed five of its next six shots and Jackson State took advantage with a 12-3 run to take its first lead of the game at 14-12. The Lady Generals led the final 10:16 of the half and led 37-34 at the break.
Victoria Douglas, Kenya Jordan and Nikki Cole all scored in double figures in the first half and combined on 14 of 22 shooting as JSCC shot 50 percent.
Sutton scored 10 in the period as the Lady Rangers shot 42 percent.
Northwest rallied to tie the game at 38-all early in the second half but couldn't pull back in front until the 15:13-mark when Sutton took advantage of a Tekevanna Young steal and assist to put the Lady Rangers up 48-46. Sutton scored seven straight points as part of an 11-0 run.
The Lady Rangers never trailed the rest of the way, building their lead to a game-high nine with 5:24 to play.
Douglas' layup tied the game at 66-all with 2:49 to play before Northwest closed on an 8-2 run.
Northwest was paced by Sutton's double-double in addition to 12 points, seven rebounds and six steals fromKristina Mays. Woods added seven points and eight rebounds off the bench.
JSCC was led by 29 points and 10 rebounds from Douglas in addition to 18 points from Kenya Jordan and 14 points and 21 rebounds from Cole.
Northwest improved to 4-0 at home on the year and is now 14-2 in its last 16 at home.
