Home » Basketball NewsMAC represented on all-state teamsMarch 15, 2011 By Brian Rathjen of North Scott Senior High SchoolThe bulk of the Iowa Newspaper Association's all-state teams, at least in Class 4A, came from the Central Iowa Metropolitan League and the Mississippi Valley Conference. This was true for both the boys' and girls' teams, announced during the past two weeks. But the Mississippi Athletic Conference was represented by three players on each of the boys' and girls' teams in the state's largest class. The girls squad had the MAC's highest team honor in Class 4A, with Bettendorf's Megan Hayes earning second-team honors. Hayes was the lone MAC player to crack the second squad for either the boys or girls. Rounding out local Class 4A selections for girls were two players from Pleasant Valley: Stacy Clark and Peyton Strawser. For the boys, three MAC players made the third team: North Scott's Brandon Voss, Davenport Central's Tavian Pomlee and Davenport West's Joe Scott. Davenport Assumption fared a little better, placing three players on the Class 3A second- and third-team all-state teams. J.T. Vonderhaar was a second-team selection on the boys' team. For the girls, Melissa Youngblut was a second teamer, while Danielle Moore represented the Knights as a third-team pick. Among other Class 3A teams, Central DeWitt fared well, with two girls and a boy making all-state teams. Patrick Burmester was a second-team pick for the boys. On the girls' side, Jen Keitel and Lindsay Smith were both first-team selections.
