Lady Huskies win in double overtime!!

By Nathan Miller of North Wilkes High SchoolNorth Wilkes hosted the Lady Huskey of Ashe in first round of MVAC Tournament. First quarter was a close one but the Vikings edge Ashe in a 9-8 to start the game. Second quarter, Lady Vikings out scored the Huskies 17-7 to take a 26-15 at half. Third quarter, the Lady Huskies closed it with a 15-7 to cut the lead down 33-30 North. Fourth quarter, Ashe took the lead for the first time around the 3 minute mark after that it was close game. With less then minute left and Vikings trailed by two, Vikings send the game in overtime with a lay up at 42-42.
First overtime, Ashe took control of overtime to lead it at 45-42 with less then 10 seconds to go, Viking point guard hit a 3 pointer at the buzzer to go to double overtime. Second overtime was about the same, but less then 15 seconds and still tied at 50-50. Ashe got the rebound on North missed shot, but the Vikings foul to send Ashe to the line for double bonus. Ashe sealed the win by hitting two free throws, Vikings got the shot off but missed the mark while buzzer sounded. Ashe wins 52-50 2OT will face East Wilkes at Wilkes Central Thursday night.
