Home » Cross Country NewsKingwood Girls Win In Round RockOctober 4, 2011 By Matt Malatesta of VYPE MAGAZINE - North HoustonThe Kingwood High School girls varsity cross country squad competed at Round Rock this Saturday in the McNeil Invitational 5K race. It was their strongest showing so far this season as they once again won gold with all five scoring runners in the top 20 finishers.
They scored 41 points with second-place finisher Dallas Highland Park scoring 93. Sandie Raines placed second overall with a time of 17:43. Laura Craig, Catie Daigre and Ashley Mills came in 11th through 13th and Grace Howley completed the scoring runners in 17th.
All five scoring runners met National Elite Standard (sub 19:00) for the 5K distance. Kerstin Sheehan met the State Elite Standard with a time of 19:01 and finished sixth for the team, 22nd overall. Sarah Bradley was 35th and Merideth Reynolds was 53rd out of 158 runners and 18 teams in the field.
Kingwood ‘s total time of 1:32:18 for the 5K course puts them number one all time for KHS. Their 1-5 split was 1:06, and only 18 seconds separated the 2nd through 5th scoring runners.
Kingwood will be competing next at the Nike South Invitational 5K race this Saturday in The Woodlands.
