VYPE Recruit Scoop -- Santos Will Commit the Week; Guess Where?

June 12, 2011
By Matt Malatesta of VYPE MAGAZINE - North Houston

Klein Collins High School has been a honey-hole for college recruiters over the years. Carolina Panther Michael Goodson put the Tigers on the map in 2006 and dozens of players have signed to play at all levels of college football since then.

This year is no different. Athlete Shane Rhodes has committed to Boise State, while quarterback Tyler Stehling and safety Ryan Santos are also DI prospects. Stehling is busy with showcase baseball, but Santos is nearing a decision within the next 48 hours.

"I'm going to commit to Boise State in the next few days," Santos said. "I'm supposed to talk with them this week."

The 5-foot-10 Santos has been the Tigers' last line of defense as a two-year starter, and his brother signed in February to Nebraska.

"I think I'll have the opportunity to play early and often at Boise and I really like the coaching staff," he said. "Their engineering program is top-notch and that is what I want to study."

There has been a lot buzz around Houston as it relates to Boise State. Pearland defensive end Sam Ukwuachu signed with Boise State in February and has been doing some recruiting. Rhodes, Cy Creek's Devan Demas and Dekaney's Armard Nance have all committed to the blue over the past several weeks.

"We all talk and everyone is excited to get up there together," he said. "There are a lot of Texas kids going there."
