The girls race featured a blistering fast first mile with the frontrunners right at 5-minute pace.  This made the rest of the 5,000 meter course very challenging, especially with a steady wind and uphill finish.  Kingwood’s Sandie Raines was second in the girls’ competition.  Karis Jochen defended her State Championship crown.  The Woodlands girl’s team was in second place heading into the final 200 meters with Madi McLellan leading the way in third, but she collapsed shortly before the finish line and was unable to finish the race.  Even with McLellan disqualified, the deep Woodlands team still placed fourth among tough competition.  College Park’s Katie Jensen was holding onto fifth heading into the homestretch but also had a tough time making it up the final hill and completed the race in 12th position.  Freshmen sensations Khayla Patel of Houston Memorial was 31st and Abby Guidry of Kingwood as 32nd.

In 4A action, Ryan Teel had the spotlight defending his Championship crown.  He ran the course in 15:42.4 and along with team-mate Levi Kessler, who placed eighth, led Friendswood to a third-place team finish.  The Kingwood Park boys finished tenth.

On the girl’s side of 4A, Tomball’s Rachel St Martin finished 7th and Kingwood Park freshman Savannah Skrivanek placed 8th.   The Kingwood Park girls were fourth in the team score.  Willis was 8th and Barber’s Hill was 10th.
