Vype: This seemed like a game you guys had to grind out. Talk about this win. David Raffield: “The kids really rose up. The kids have been through a brutal schedule. We’ve been an emotional roller coaster through this schedule playing tremendous football. We even had grades this week and we wore out. Just flat wore out. And we came out flat and played like that. But, they stayed steady in the box. And we are still in it in the fourth quarter, that’s our time to shine.”
Vype: Efforts on both sides of the ball, but the defense seemed to set the tone here. Talk about the defensive effort tonight. Raffield: “They had to rise up. They have a lot of pride. They got their egos popped and gave up a lot of points and a lot of yards (against Lufkin) so they wanted to come out and prove themselves. A lot of them are seniors like Jimmie Gilbert and Kyle Chisholm, they were not going to let them get their way. They were going to make them play hard, clean and good football. And they did.”
Vype: What was the turning point in this game as it stayed close through it all? Raffield: “I don’t know. I think the fourth down play when they hit us in the backfield and he spins out and gets a first down. I think that broke their spirits.”
Vype: What’s the overall attitude of the team as you guys have come away with some big wins this season? Raffield: “We're excited to be 1-1 and next week is the cross-town showdown. Houston doesn’t know what that’s about. But there will be about 20,000 people at Kyle Field and College Station and Bryan is a war. It will be a great football game.”
