Last week most of Houston’s top harriers ran in the 5K races at the Humble Region Preview. This week they faced off again at the Kingwood Andy Wells Invitational.
The girls ran a 4K race and featured a second dual between The Woodlands’ Madi McLellan and Kingwood’s Sandie Raines. Raines came in at 13:29.73 and McLellan was 13:31.43. They were both over 45 seconds ahead of the rest of the field and smashed the previous course record of 14:06.
Katy ran in a tight pack with only 25 seconds between the scorers, led by Emily Voss who finished 11th. Madison Gilcrease of Cypress Woods scored within the top ten and led her team to a fourth-place finish.
In the boy’s race, The Woodlands’ Brigham Hedges prevailed once more with a time of 14:28.45 on the three-mile course, edging out Friendswood’s Ryan Teel by less than half a second. Micheal Lindberg of Kingwood Park was third and Brad Dohner of Klein Oak was fourth.
Sergio Rodriguez finished 10th and led Kingwood to a second-place team score. Pedro Nasta of the John Cooper School finished 6th. Carson Wilder of Katy finished 11th.
The Woodlands dominated the team competition in both divisions.

VYPE's Cross Country New and Notes
Karis Jochen of A&M Consolidated and Katie Jensen of College Park, ran in the Cedar Park Invitational 5K. Jochen won the race in 17:28.11 and Jensen was second in 17:39.92. Jensen was more than 30 seconds clear of the rest of the field.
Klein’s Janae Bottoms won the Cy Fair ISD Invitational 3 mile race in 18:56.71 and was 10 seconds in front of the second-place finisher.
Xavier Jimenez of Brazosport won the Dayton Bronco Invite three-mile race in 15:25.70 and was over 35 seconds clear of the field.
Kevin Dean of Katy Seven Lakes won the Willis WildKat Invitational 5K with 16:09. Brittany Traverse of Willis was the top girl with 19:02.
NATIONAL RANKINGS Houston Cross Country in National Rankings
The National High School Coaches Association has four Houston cross country individuals and three Houston teams included in their latest national rankings.
